Today is Therapeutic Thursday at Aortic Hope!
Many of you have heard of The Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino (www.butyoudontlooksick.com) which helps to explain the limitations of having a chronic illness.
We would like to share with you an alternative "theory", The Tightrope Concept.
In this article from Medium.com, entitled "The Tightrope Concept: An Alternative to Spoon Theory" written by Clare Marie Edgeman, the Spoon Theory is put to the test.
Maybe having a chronic illness or condition shouldn't be measured by how many spoons we have in any given moment of the day, or how much energy we have to give but rather what our playing field looks like.
Some individuals live life on a playing field the size of a parking lot but imagine it off of the ground. Those of us who live with a disease, illness or anything that has caused limitations (or caused us to be less-able), might only have a playing field the size of a tightrope, swinging when it is windy or steady when we have a good grasp of things.
Take a minute to read the article HERE and see if it resonates with you. We found it quite validating for our ever-changing circumstances.
