Torbjørn Sindballe (DK) is a former professional triathlete, 2-time ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champion (2004 & 2006) and 2007 Hawaii Ironman podium finisher. He was diagnosed with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve in 2005 and ended his career in 2009 due to a progression in valve regurgitation and dilation of the aorta. After 15 years of “Watch & Wait” he underwent aortic valve replacement and ascending aortic repair in late October 2024 at 48 years old and is now a few months into his journey back to an active life.
Torbjørn has a Master in Sport Sciences from the University of Copenhagen and worked as a coach, public speaker and writer in the first years following his career incl. authoring 2 best selling triathlon training books (DK) and comprehensive training articles for Inside Triathlon and Triathlon Magazine (US) . Today, Torbjørn is the Nordic Director for Leadership Development in Deloitte and the lucky owner of a "29mm carbon valve with tube amplifier”. If you visit Denmark, you will find him as the chief energizer and announcer at the Ironman Copenhagen and Ironman 70.3 Helsinore :-)
